This is a very interesting article on the topic of screening for cancer and the over treatment of patients who have been told they have “precancerous” findings. The focus is on Barrett’s Esophagus and how the changes found in it are actually a normal cellular response to chronic stomach acid exposure. This makes it a whole different situation than before, and allows a person time for less drastic treatment measures. In many cases the present conventional medical treatment is worse than the disorder itself. Patients are too often rushed by their doctors who use a person’s fear of the word “cancer” to bypass more conservative treatments.
